Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.’s)

Botox Cosmetic

Does Botox hurt?

There is a little discomfort during the administration consisting of some stinging. If needed, topical anesthetic can be used.

When will I see results and how long does it last?

Typically, it takes 4 -7 days for Botox to set. During that time you may experience a headache or possibly a flu-like syndrome. Botox typically lasts anywhere from 8 -16 weeks. Your body does develop memory so successive treatments may last longer.

What if I hate my results?

The effects wear off in 8 -16 weeks with no residual side effects.

What about “fake Botox”?

We purchase our Botox directly from the manufacturer, Allergan. This insures that we have pure product.

Who administers Botox?

Our physician administers all injections.

Laser Hair Removal

What areas can be lasered?

Almost anywhere on the body including the face can be done. The exclusions are under the eyebrow and male genitalia.

Do you use a true laser or IPL for hair removal?

We use a true laser, and 810 diode to be specific, which is the gold standard for laser hair removal.

Is a doctor present when the laser is operated?

YES! If the physician isn’t operating the laser herself, she is only ever a few feet away from the laser room insuring your safety.

Do I need to be shaved when I get lasered?

Yes. We ask that you come to the office freshly shaved with no deodorant (if we are doing your underarms). We can shave the area for you, but a fee may be incurred.

Is topical anesthesia available?

Yes, we do offer topical numbing medication for patients who desire it. A charge of $10 will be added to your ticket.

Can all skin types be lasered?

No. We use the Fitzpatrick scale of skin care classification to determine if you are a candidate for laser hair removal. The laser looks for melanin, the substance in our bodies that gives us freckles and our overall skin color. The ideal candidates have fair skin with dark hair. We, unfortunately, cannot perform laser hair removal on black skin. We can do ethnic skin like Asian and Hispanic descents.

Are multiple treatments required?

Yes. Due to the nature of the hair growth cycle, multiple treatments are needed. Not all follicles are in the same phase of growth. We space out the treatments to attack the hair in the proper growth phase. These treatments can be every 4 weeks up to every 10 -12 weeks. Most patients require 6-9 treatments to be “clear”

Is the hair removal permanent?

We offer permanent hair reduction. No laser available can promise permanent hair removal. We do however want you to be satisfied with your service and will work with you to get a desired result.

Can I tweeze or wax between treatments?

No! We need to have hair in the shaft in order for the laser to attack the hair.

Microdermabrasions and Micropeels

Does it hurt?

No. Most patients feel that it is relaxing. You’ll feel a gentle suction on your skin and if crystals are used, you may also feel the passage of the crystals over your skin.

Can I do this at lunch and go back to work?

Yes. You should have no problems doing this over a lunch hour. The redness that may follow usually dissipates within about 30 minutes and we have make-up to cover up any unwanted redness.

How much will my face peel?

That depends on several things including your skin type, what acid is used and how long the acid is left on the skin. WHEN YOUR SKIN PEELS – DO NOT PICK AT IT!

How often can they be done?

They can be done as frequently as weekly. The skin has a horny layer, the stratum corneum. I liken it to a candy shell. A microderm or micropeel, strips this layer, leaving you with soft smooth skin. This layer starts to build up within 24-48 hours after it is removed. By removing this layer, your make-up and skin care products will penetrate your skin better giving you better results from your products.

What acids do you use?

We use a variety of acids including glycolic, lactic, and salicylic. It is important for you to tell us of any allergies or medications that you take so we can be aware of any interactions with the acids.

What if I use Retin A?

We ask that you halt the use of your Retin A for at least 3 days prior to a peel.

Spider Vein Treatments

Do you use lasers or injections?

We use FDA approved lasers to treat our spider veins. The laser also treats any red lesions on the skin like hemangiomas and small red vessels on the face,

Can I work out after my treatments?

We ask that you avoid heavy exercise for 2-3 days post treatment to insure success. We also ask that you wear surgical support hose during the day. You can return to work, but it is important to keep the legs elevated for a few days for optimal results.

Do I need more than one treatment?

Usually 2-3  treatments are necessary per area treated.
